The 16th Maui Chinese New Year Festival features live entertainment, food, craft and cultural booths; Chinese cultural, calligraphy, children art contest from grades K thru 8, cooking contest, live entertainment, martial arts demonstrations and good luck photos with an ancient lion head from the Kwock Hing Society.
Chinese New Year Festival is scheduled for February 2015 to greet the new year of the Ram. Bring in good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity for the upcoming year. This 16th Annual Maui Chinese New Year will greet the new lunar calendar-year with traditional lion dancers and fireworks, Chinese cultural crafts, calligraphy, good luck food and charms, traditional dance, Chinese historical display of Maui Chinese families and culture, good luck photo with historical Lion from Kwock Hing Society, keiki (children) activities, art contest and attire contest and great cultural entertainment.
For more than 15 years the Maui Chinese Cultural Society and Maui Chinese Club have greeted the new year with this community event. Starting off with firecrackers for good luck and loud drums to ward off “evil spirits” partcipants greet the new year with Lion Dancers from Maui Chinese Martial Arts Academy. For good luck and prosperity participants feed the lion money in red lycee envelopes.
