Waimea Canyon State Park, located on the west coast of Kauai, is often referred to as “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” Not as big or as old as its Arizona cousin, this geological wonder in the Hawaiian Islands stretches for 14 miles, is 1 mile wide and over 3,600 ft. deep. The Waimea Canyon lookout offers majestic views of crested buttes, rugged crags and deep valley gorges – the spectacular inland vistas extend for miles.
The rim overlooking this scenic treasure, the deep, colorful gorge of Waimea Canyon with adjacent forest reserve with long, strenuous hike into and out of the canyon. For outdoor sportsmen, pig and goat hunting available seasonally.
The main road, Waimea Canyon Drive, leads you to a lower lookout point and the main Waimea Canyon Overlook, offering views of Kauai’s dramatic interior. The road continues into the mountains and ends at Kokee State Park. There are numerous trails to traverse for beginners and seasoned hikers. Don’t miss an opportunity to explore this natural wonderland.
